A Note from the Pastor
You may have noticed a lot has been written about love. I was curious as to how many love songs have been written in English. Several websites I checked had the same answer, too many to count. When I checked Amazon to see how many books came up with love in the title there were 262,925. For all the products they sell there are 2,186,578 things. It seems there is a lot to say about love. This is nothing new.
I was surprised to learn a Valentine poem I thought went back to my childhood was older, from 1784.
The rose is red, the violet's blue
The honey's sweet, and so are you
Thou are my love and I am thine
I drew thee to my Valentine
The lot was cast and then I drew
And Fortune said it shou'd be you.
A true classic, wouldn’t you agree?
Years ago I worked for Gateway computers for a year. During that year there was an e-mail that contained a virus called the love bug. If a person clicked on it to read it their computer was automatically infected. Being knowledgeable about computers and working for a computer company you would think most would not open an unknown e-mail like that. Yet a great many did and shut down much of the company network until the virus could be eliminated. It wasn’t that they didn’t know better, it was that the virus had a powerful temptation in the subject. It simply said “Someone loves you”. Many could not resist finding out who loved them
There seems to be an inexhaustible interest in love because the need to love and be loved is so deep rooted in people the world over. That’s the way God made us. He not only put that need in us He offers us the greatest love anyone could know, His love. If the Bible had a subject line it would say to you “Someone loves you”. In this case it’s not a trick, its truth. Open it and share His love.
By His Grace,
Pastor Dennis
